Finite Element Analysis

WHAT WE OFFER

Advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

At BWCE Mining, we excel in modelling and analysing intricate structures using advanced finite element analysis techniques. For mining and industrial operations across Australia, our engineers tailor the finite element analysis approach to meet specific project requirements.

We utilise the powerful Strand7 software package for comprehensive structural assessments. Straightforward assessments or complex analysis, we can define how your structures handle a range of unpredictable elements.

Contact our team today on (08) 6404 9771 or email us to discuss your FEA requirements.

Specialised analysis capabilities

Our methodical engineers leverage the elite software package Strand 7. This FEA design tool provides an integrated visual environment that allows us to model and simulate various scenarios. Our FEA capabilities include:

Linear Analysis

Stress and deformation checks under steady, fixed loads.

Large deformations, material plasticity, and contact behaviour where load response isn’t proportional.

Structures subject to sustained oscillating or sinusoidal loading from operating machinery.

Moving loads, sloshing, tipping, and dynamic structural movements.

Towers, columns, bins, and slender structural members under compressive load.

Structures subject to repeated or cyclic loading across their operating life.

The structures we provide FEA assessments for:

With a wealth of experience in FEA design, BWCE is confident in providing structural analysis services for various static structures, including:

  • Tower frames
  • Tanks
  • Foundations
  • Bins
  • Hoppers
  • Conveyors
  • Feeders
  • Water Tankers

Why Choose BWCE Mining?

Considered, experienced approach

Our approach prioritises safety, considering factors such as the number of cycles and design life, all grounded in engineering best practices.

Dynamic analysis adaptability

Strand7 equips us with these dynamic finite element analysis tools to model, modify, and re-analyse quickly. Where a structure needs strengthening (adding stiffeners to flanges), we can update the model and re-assess without rebuilding the analysis from scratch.

400 Tonne Hopper

A replacement 400 tonnes hopper designed to allow installation in six segments and ease of transportation. The hopper was designed using finite element analysis.

OREFLOW HOPPER, FEEDER AND CONVEYOR

BWCE completed the structural design and structural verification for the Hopper, feeder and conveyor. The hopper is designed to be mobile and is intended to be loaded by a front-end loader. Local company Oreflow fabricated and supplied the equipment for Alcoa.

Salt Loading Hopper & Conveyors

Fully fabricated from stainless steel the loading hopper and conveyors handle loading and transfer of bulk salt. B. Waddell Consulting engineers completed the civil and structural design and certification for the equipment.

Existing 30m High Scrubber Stack

The existing stack was severely corroded at the base. Sections of the stack wall were completely corroded through. Following site measurements the stack was modelled using FEA to determine the best approach to strengthening the Stack.

Screen Lifting Certification

BWCE completed lifting checks for the screen, support beams and provided structural verification for the lifting lugs. The screen was fabricated by Local company Oreflow.

Underground Water Tanker

FEA model of underground water tanker including internal baffles. FEA model included moving loads, hydrostatic loads, sloshing loads and tipping.
